Hluleka nature reserve is established in the attractive and stunning of Eastern Cape and peaceful former Transkei coast. It lies within Ngqeleni district, and it is positioned roughly 90km by road to the Southeast of Mthatha while taking the R61 towards Port St Johns. The region embraced the old Strachan grant farm, and it is an outstanding 772-ha in area, which also have the coastal strip. It is created by two magnificent jungle reserves. Hluleka nature reserve provides different and plenty of ecosystems and its main appeal to the naturalist is the abundant birdlife, this includes rocky seashores, golden beaches, lagoons and lust forests of quinine, coral, stink ebony and natal fig trees.
What's amazing about Hluleka nature reserve is that it provides a fully furnished accommodation that is in 6 stunning double-story Chalets that provides sea view and the accommodation have beautiful and comfortable lounge suits with flat screen TV including DSTV access in the lounge and it offers microwaves, gas stoves and all kitchen essentials and it has beautiful push linen and comfortable beds in the bedroom. Each bathroom has its soft towels. This nature reserve provides daily domestic service including self-catering. Through the Chalets you can watch the Zebras calmly grazing on the Lawns.
This is the best Nature reserve for nature enthusiasts as they will enjoy the chance to spot the bush back including impala and the availability of Blue Duiker and Burchell's zebra as they are the most animals that are frequently found in the reserve. So, if you are looking for a place to relax to forget about hustle and bustle of life and want to enjoy their leisure time through the spectacular forests to hidden picnic spots is a sure way to feel relaxed. This place has beaches that are punctuated with astonishing rocky outcrops shaped into surprising bubble formations by the rapid cooling of volcanic lava in millennia past.
This reserve offers a wide range of activities such as
Birdwatching
Dolphin watching
Swimming
Hiking
Game drives
Nature walks
View drives and many more.
Visiting Hluleka Nature reserve adds to the experiences I would never forget, I am not regretting even a second of being in that environment as it offers a beautiful and stunning views of rural areas, those areas with rondavels starting from the atmosphere when I get there especial when I spotted those black and white strips of Zebras and what I mostly enjoyed is when they closely come near the double-story chalets. Those chalets are giving luxury vibes as they are very comfortable and providing a Seaview. The view as a whole is just stunning offering a little walking distance to the beach with endless green landscapes and at the same time the accommodation is well-kept with great facilities and extremely affordable.
Moreover, being there was the great experience ever as I witnessed the most beautiful and most calming bedroom, I mean starting from the kitchen to the bathroom that gives a healthy and warm water and the bedroom as well is beautifully furnished and it gives a well and amazing birdlife including where Dolphins and whales could be seen while enjoying the calmly and fresh sea breeze blowing in. I enjoyed a lot of activities there such as swimming and birdwatching even though I only spent 2 days and I wished I could add more days.
However, there were few touchups needed such as the hiking trail that is not clear enough, so it can provide scary experience to people who love hiking and at the same time there's NO FISHING. Getting in the reserve is not that easy as the road is not good at all having potholes and stray animal galore, so it would be much advisable to use sturdy vehicles such as 4x4 and others.
As you drive more than 30km on the gravel road I would kindly advise to check weather conditions before going there as the road has potholes and the gravel road is likely to have mud on it, so it might be very useful to check weather conditions and at the same time it's rare for kids to easily accept the gravel road for a long drive so it would be better to make them aware if you are planning to visit with them as they easily experience fatigue. Moreover, the reserve does not allow pets, this would be more disadvantaging for people who like to carry their pets with them.
